Merry Christmas
'Merry Christmas' was
written at a request for a song with Merry Christmas as the title. I
had written ‘Happy Christmas’. I said sure.
'Merry Christmas' is
said so much at that time of the year, it said with emptiness or
meaningless. Christ’s Mass has to do with Catholicism, which I was
delivered out of over thirty years ago. But the term Christ’s Mass
or Christmas has become the title of the celebration of Jesus Christ’s
birth.
He was born more likely
in October. We are never told to remember his birth or to celebrate
it. Yet we do. We are to remember his death every time we hold
the Lord’s Supper.
If the true meaning of
Jesus Christ’s birth is missed or doesn’t bring sinners to repentance, it
is an empty holiday. Jesus was born to die for sinners of whom I am
chief.
